Voluntary Contributions to Climate

The Voluntary Climate Contribution Portal enables individuals to purchase the various types of credits offered on the BVRio Platform to accelerate the process of implementing public policies that generate climate benefits.

All markets available today for trading in BVRio were originally designed to facilitate the implementation of Brazilian public policies related to environmental and social improvements. However, these markets also bring benefits related to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and fighting climate change.

Legal Reserve Quotas and Conservation Unit Credits were created by the Brazilian Forest Law to ensure the protection of forests, and preservation of biodiversity and water resources, but also generate huge volumes of GHG emission reductions. The Reverse Logistics Credits, in turn, generate reductions in GHG emissions through the increase of recycling and the reduction of dumps, at the same time contributing to the productive insertion and economic emancipation of waste pickers throughout the country.

It is important to notice that purchasing these mechanisms does not entitle the carbon credits derived from these activities, since these will be accounted for either by the Brazilian government or the entities that actually conducted these activities (e.g. waste pickers). But voluntary purchases of these certificates increase liquidity and the level of activity in these markets, accelerating the implementation of the Law, which in turn will result in further GHG reductions and benefits for the climate.
