Since 2003, the initiative has been operating in the region and today employs 150 \u201cmanagers\u201d \u2013 as workers in this segment are known. The yearly production is around 42,000 m\u00b3 of timber, which could be fully commercialised if not for the competition with illegal timber products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.www.bvrio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/coomflora-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1442 size-full\" src=\"\/view\/image\/794x609\/noticias\/33cb830b-40d2-493a-bd37-a370b97c88db.png\" alt=\"coomflora (1)\" width=\"794\" height=\"609\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.www.bvrio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/coomflora2-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1443\" src=\"\/view\/image\/1014x485\/noticias\/6e3653e6-2cfb-44fa-b8bf-c4311ec5756f.png\" alt=\"coomflora2 (1)\" width=\"1014\" height=\"485\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften we have to reduce the value of our products to compete with clandestine timber products. But we have a high cost in all the stages of extraction of this wood. Unfortunately there is a culture in the region that creates an unfair competition\u201d, explains Alo\u00edsio Patroc\u00ednio, one of the coordinators of the project.<\/p>\n<p>In order to help the Cooperativa Mista da FLONA Tapaj\u00f3s to sell its production and fight against illegality, BVRio\u2019s Responsible Timber Exchange is now selling timber products from the project. The main objective of the initiative is to promote wood of legal and sustainable origin \u2013 in the case of COOMFLONA, all production has FSC\u00ae certification since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope the exchange will help to spread the products of legal origin and find consumers for our surplus,\u201d says Patroc\u00ednio. He further explains that one of the goals of COOMFLONA for the future is to start processing their own wood, as today they are sold as logs.
