BVRio is going to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (<\/span>COP27<\/span><\/a>) and will participate in the <\/span>Brazil Climate Action Hub<\/span><\/a> and other side events over the next two weeks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"On 12 November, the <\/span>Adaptation & Agriculture Day at COP27<\/span><\/a>, the Brazil Climate Action Hub will focus on discussing issues related to forests and financing. BVRio co-founder and chairman Pedro Moura Costa will participate in the panel session \u2018<\/span>REDD+: a strategic instrument for higher ambitions in rainforest conservation’<\/span><\/strong>, at 11:30-12:30 (GMT), with the Environment Secretary of Par\u00e1 State, Emergent and Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM).<\/p>\n

Later on, BVRio Director of Forests and Public Policies, Beto Mesquita, will participate in the panel session \u2018<\/span>Financing nature-based solutions and scaling-up forest restoration in Brazil<\/b>\u2019, starting at 14:00-15:00 (GMT) on 12 November, together with Re.green; UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Brazil Coalition Climate, Forests and Agriculture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The discussions on forest and finance will continue in the Hub on 14 November. Beto Mesquita will join the panel session \u2018<\/span>Untangling environmental legalisation and climate change in Brazil<\/b>\u2019, 12:30-13:30 (GMT), with The Forest Code Observatory, LACLIMA and Federal University of Minas Gerais.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beto commented, \u201cAlthough the main agenda of this COP is renewable energy, forests and agriculture will also get a lot of attention, especially from tropical forest countries, including Brazil. Although no major advances are expected in the provisions of the Paris Agreement, such as the case of Article 6 regulation, there is great expectation that companies, governments and coalitions announce ambitious commitments to reduce global emissions from deforestation, wildfires and agricultural activities. BVRio will actively participate in events and technical panels, presenting its initiatives and financial solutions to enhance the value of standing forests, reduce deforestation in commodities supply chains and scale up climate investments”.<\/span><\/p>\n

These events will bring scientists, civil society and the private sector together to discuss financial solutions to reduce the risk of crossing a tipping point in the Amazon region. Participants will address the opportunities for the voluntary carbon market and the importance of working through networks and technology. In addition to carbon sequestration as a climate change mitigation measure, forest restoration is an essential instrument for economic development and promotion of social impact, as well as the protection of biodiversity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
