Throughout May, BVRio’s circular economy specialist, Maria Accioly, has been leading capacity-building workshops for the workers of the establishments participating in the \u2018Circular Beach\u2019 project, developed in partnership between the EU programme Circular Plastics in the Americas (CPAP), BVRio, Riotur and Orla Rio. The project’s main objective is to promote sustainable tourism in Rio’s seaside areas through campaigns to reduce and replace the use of plastics.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"On May 4, 56 employees of the nine beach kiosks involved in the project received training and on May 18, it was the turn of more than 20 employees of the three participating hotels. The objective of the training is to contextualise for the staff about the problem of plastic waste, map the use of plastic by the establishments and serve as input to draw up a comprehensive questionnaire to be applied by BVRio with the help of university students from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The workshops were filled with a lot of exchange of experiences and willingness to foster initiatives and investments towards a world without plastic waste,” said Maria.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This month, Maria also had the privilege to be master of ceremonies at the launch of the initiative \u2018European Union-Brazil: Solutions for the Circular Economy\u2019, on May 3 in Rio de Janeiro. held by the European Union to foster initiatives that stimulate investment in new projects to transition to a more circular and sustainable economy. The event marked the beginning of roadshows across the main capitals of Brazil, starting with a visit of the EU delegation to Copacabana Beach to get a closer look at the actions of the Circular Beach project. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
