This booklet (available in Portuguese only) was developed by BVRio to guide rural landowners who conserve native vegetation beyond the minimum required under the Brazilian Forest Code, especially Legal Reserve surpluses, on how to structure and operationalise conservation instruments that can be formalised and, where applicable, traded, such as Environmental Easements and Forest Reserve Credits (CRAs). It supports the implementation of the Ecological Corridors Programme in the area of influence of two Transpetro pipelines, as part of the environmental compensation required under the federal licensing process led by IBAMA: by informing and engaging landowners in the region, the booklet helps create the enabling conditions for these surpluses to be formalised and, once CRA transactions are fully operational, negotiated—allowing Transpetro to target compensation towards connected, priority areas and delivering tangible benefits for biodiversity and the long-term sustainability of rural properties.
